Childcare Attendant

Role/Purpose: Provide safe and nurturing childcare to children infants through preschool during Sunday morning church worship services. Provide childcare for a broader age range for special events as available. Provide a reassuring presence to parents and guardians as an extension of the congregation’s welcome and care.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of the children in your care while parents or guardians attend worship or educational programs. 
  • Abide by and ensure others follow nursery policy and procedures, including sign in and out procedures.
  • Establish a welcoming and positive presence with parents and guardians by introducing oneself or greeting them and their children.
  • As age-appropriate, involve children in keeping the nursery safe, clean, and welcoming
  • Clean and maintain the toys and equipment in the nursery. Alert Faith Formation Coordinator of supply or equipment needs.
  • Communicate regularly with the Faith Formation Coordinator, including about scheduling, concerns about children and safety, and other needs of the childcare program.

Working Relationships: The Childcare Attendant is directly supervised by the Faith Formation Coordinator. He or she relates cooperatively with other members of the staff and the pastor as the head of the staff. 

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Mature high school student or has high school diploma or GED.
  • Takes appropriate initiative while also able to work cooperatively.
  • Enjoys working with infants from 8 weeks old to preschool children. Special events may also include care for older children.
  • Experience working with children of varying ages.
  • Has current certification in CPR and First Aid or is willing to complete training.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Attend training on Safe Church/Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Demonstrates character consistent with the care for young children. One need not be a practicing Christian or active in a Lutheran congregation. 
  • Availability: Consistent availability for regular hours of 8:30-12:30 Sunday mornings. Special events as available and agreed upon.

Compensation:  Beginning at $11/hour for part-time work.
